Sekitar 31 tahun silam, 8 Agustus, Indonesia berguncang. Tokoh pendidikan ini menutup mata selamanya. Hari itu berduyun-duyun pelayat mendatangi rumah duka.

Masjid Ashliyah di Padang Panjang pun tak mampu menampung jumlah pelayat yang ingin menyalatkannya. Panji Masyarakat edisi 21 Agustus 1990 memberitakan, “Meski diguyur hujan lebat yang turun sewaktu penimbunan liang lahat, ribuan pelayat termasuk para santrinya seperti tidak menggubris hujan. Mereka tetap terpaku di tempat semula.”

Dua Tahun Sebelum Wafat

Air mata Isnaniah Saleh mungkin sekali-kali ingin menetes. Di hadapan hadirin, ia terus berbicara. Terkadang pikirannya menerawang ke masa silam. Dua tahun sebelum ajal, ingatannya masih mengenang.

“Untuk meresmikan berdirinya perguruan tinggi yang sangat beliau cita-citakan, beliau rela mengorbankan harta milik pribadi beliau untuk pembiayaan dengan melepas sebuah gelang emas yang melilit di tangan beliau…,” ucap Isnaniah menceritakan kisah pendirian al-Jami’atud Diniyyah lil Banat. Perguruan tinggi yang diidekan Rahmah El-Yunusiyyah dengan Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Dakwah ini diresmikan 22 November 1967.

Isnaniah melanjutkan, “Pada akhir tahun 1967, dengan kondisi badan yang sudah semakin rapuh, beliau berangkat ke Jakarta untuk memperkenalkan perguruan tinggi yang baru didirikan ini kepada tokoh-tokoh masyarakat kita…Beliau temui Bapak Dr. Mohammad Hatta, Bapak Mohammad Natsir, Bapak Dr. H. Ali Akbar, Ibu Dr. Yetty Rizali Noor, Ibu Dr. Zakiah Daradjat serta para alumni dan simpatisan cita-cita dan perjuangan beliau.”

Hadirin dalam ruangan itu terus menyimak. Masa kunjungan terakhir Rahmah ke Malaysia pada 1968 tak luput diceritakan. “Dengan kondisi badan yang sangat lemah dibawa usia yang semakin lanjut dan kesehatan yang tambah menurun, beliau masih sempat melihat dan bertemu dengan anak-anak didiknya…,”  ucap Isnaniah dalam pidatonya saat peringatan 65 Tahun Perguruan Diniyyah Puteri Padang Panjang, 1 November 1988.

Juli 1968, Isnaniah memang diajak Rahmah menuju Kelantan, Malaysia. Disambut Datuk Mohammad Asri dan sang istri Datin Sakinah Juned, Rahmah juga mengunjungi Penang, Perak, Kuala Trenggano, dan Kuala Lumpur.

Sebelum meninggalkan dunia yang fana ini, beliau seperti digerakkan oleh tangan yang gaib datang menemui Gubernur Sumatera Barat Prof. Drs. Harun Zein, menitipkan sekolah yang sudah dibina dan dipimpinnya selama 46 tahun agar diperhatikan dan dilihat-lihatkan, karena rasanya napas ini sudah sampai di sini,” Isnaniah menunjuk leher. Rahmah tutup usia pada 26 Februari 1969.

Isnaniah Saleh: Anak Mariah yang Bergairah

Dua puluh empat hari sepeninggal Rahmah, Isnaniah diamanahi sebagai pimpinan umum Perguruan Diniyyah Puteri Padang Panjang. Perguruan ini tak asing lagi bagi anak nomor empat dari tujuh bersaudara ini. Tak hanya karena kemenakan Rahmah, tetapi juga tempatnya sedari cilik bersekolah. Anak Mariah El-Yunusiyyah dan Muhammad Saleh ini tamat dari Kulliyatul Mu’allimat el-Islamiyah (KMI) pada 1947.

Dalam kesaksian Nurtjaja Idris, Isnaniah dikenal pantang letih belajar. Teman satu angkatan asal Medan itu menyaksikan keuletan Isnaniah dalam pelajaran dan organisasi Kepanduan Indonesia Muslim (KIM) dan Persatuan Murid-Murid Diniyyah School (PMDS).

Selulus dari KMI, Isnaniah menjadi guru. Saat mengajar di SMP Diniyyah di Jakarta (1951-1954), ia juga menempuh dan merampungkan pendidikan di Perguruan Tinggi Islam Jakarta. Sekitar 1958, ia termasuk satu dari delapan alumnus KMI yang mendapatkan kesempatan menuntut ilmu di Mesir. Isnaniah Saleh sempat pula menamatkan pendidikan formal di Fakultas Ushuluddin IAIN Imam Bonjol di Padang.

Semasa memimpin Perguruan Diniyyah Puteri, ia membuka kembali  taman kanak-kanak yang sempat terhenti semasa Rahmah. Ia juga membuka Pendidikan Guru Taman Kanak-kanak Islam (PGTKI) pada 1983. Adanya Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah (STIT) Rahmah El-Yunusiyyah yang kini terlihat megah tak terlepas dari inisiasi Isnaniah Saleh.

Tak hanya mengembangkan Perpustakaan Zainuddin Labay, ia juga menggerakkan agar Diniyyah School yang didirikan Zainuddin Labay dibuka kembali. Di sisi lain, Isnaniah juga mengidekan Laboratorium Bahasa. Seberapa baikkah Isnaniah Saleh memimpin Perguruan Diniyyah Puteri?

Barangkali ucapan Leon Salim yang pernah menjadi pimpinan PNI-Baru di Sumatera Barat dan sekretaris  kepercayaan Rahmah mewakili. Ia berujar, “…kemenakan kami yang dulu berbadan kecil itu. Bangga atas kemajuan usahanya…melibatkan masyarakat atas usahanya, melibatkan tiga gubernur mengelilinginya. Ia berhasil…Bunda Rahmah boleh tersenyum dari dunia lain.”

Anak Ideologis

Ketika mendirikan lembaga pendidikan, Rahmah menggariskan tujuan: Membentuk puteri yang berjiwa Islam dan Ibu Pendidik yang cakap dan aktif serta bertanggung jawab tentang kesejahteraan masyarakat dan tanah air atas dasar pengabdian kepada Allah Subhana wa Ta’ala.

“Sebenarnya yang menjadi pokok utama dalam pendidikannya tersebut adalah pembentukan puteri yang berjiwa Islam. Yaitu pembentukan puteri yang berpandangan hidup dengan pandangan hidup Islam, yang dalam hidupnya dapat bersikap menurut sikap yang diajarkan oleh Islam, yang dapat mengusahakan kebaikan dan kesejahteraan lahir dan batin, baik bagi dirinya sendiri dan keluarganya maupun bagi masyarakat yang lebih luas, dengan menaati perintah Tuhan atas kesadaran pengabdian diri pada-Nya semata-semata. Apalagi yang lebih dari itu?” tegas Isnaniah saat peringatan 50 tahun Perguruan Diniyyah Puteri Padang Panjang, 1973.

Lahir sekitar dua tahun lebih sebulan setelah gempa Padang Panjang 28 Juni 1926, Isnaniah terbilang dekat dengan Rahmah. Ia pun diasuh sang nenek Rafi’ah sejak cilik. Ia sepertinya paling memahami setiap ide dan tindakan yang dilakukan Rahmah.

Dengan bekal ilmu keagamaan dan kependidikan yang ditempuh secara lebih modern, Isnaniah harus diakui sebagai anak ideologis Rahmah. Banyak pemikiran ilmiahnya meneguhkan dan menguatkan konsep pendidikan Rahmah El-Yunusiyyah.

Bukan hal yang mengherankan pula jika semasa kepemimpinannya, lembaga pendidikan yang dibuka kembali atau didirikan mencantumkan “Rahmah El-Yunusiyyah“. Dengan pemakaian nama ini, menurut penulis, Isnaniah ingin agar setiap generasi penerus tak melenceng dari khittah sang pendiri.

Menerima Pisang Terkubak

Penulis dengan jujur mengakui tak mudah menceritakan riwayat dan jejak perjuangan Isnaniah. Sempat seseorang menginginkan agar Isnaniah menulis autobiografi. Anak Mariah ini terlalu rendah hati, padahal penulisan autobiografi juga penting bagi penulisan sejarah.

Isnaniah memang Isnaniah. Penulis menghormatinya sebagai Sang Penerus. Tak mudah membawa tongkat estafeta Perguruan Diniyyah Puteri dari tangan Rahmah. Seberapa hebatnya seorang tokoh, legacy-nya kerap lenyap setelah meninggalnya. Isnaniah mampu melewati fase rawan.

Sebagai penerus, ia merasa Sang Perintislah yang paling bekerja keras. Menegakkan batu-batu pondasi mungkin terlihat sederhana, namun menurut Isnaniah justru nilainya tak tepermanai. Isnaniah merasa tak ubahnya seperti “menerima pisang yang sudah terkubak”.

Isnaniah Saleh dan Kacamata Pecah

Pukul 14.00, 8 Agustus 1990, Isnaniah menuju Padang. Di dalam mobil, ia duduk di jok depan. Di belakangnya ada tujuh penumpang.

Sekitar 100 meter sebelum memasuki Padang, sebuah truk tangki melaju kencang. Di daerah Kasang Koto Tangah itu mata Isnaniah mendadak gelap. Kecelakaan terjadi diperkirakan pukul 15.15. Kacamata yang biasa dikenakan Isnaniah pecah dan melukai ujung matanya

Isnaniah sempat dibawa ke rumah sakit. Dari penumpang dalam mobil, Isnaniah yang meninggal dunia. Untuk detail kronologi, kelak kita bisa tanyakan ke Malaikat Izrail. Wallahu a’lam.
